Why Castor Oil?
- What is Castor Oil?
Castor oil is derived from the seeds of the castor bean plant (Ricinus communis).Historically, it was referred to as “palma christi” due to the resemblance of its leaves to the hands of Christ. The seeds are processed to produce castor oil, which is utilized for both medicinal and industrial applications.
The oil is typically extracted by cold-pressing the seeds, which contain between 30% and 50% oil by weight. Castor oil is rich in triglycerides, with ricinoleic acid—an unsaturated omega-9 fatty acid known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties—being the predominant component. Additionally, castor oil contains other beneficial compounds such as oleic acid, linolenic acid, flavonoids, terpenoids, and various nutrients, collectively contributing to its effectiveness as a powerful healing agent.
